Menopause Services

Your initial consultation will entail a detailed review of your symptoms and your needs. During your appointment, Dr Rebecca Hayes together with yourself will explore and discuss your options.  Often, the Greene Climacteric Score is used to examine your menopausal symptoms and allocates points for different symptoms. It measures the physical, psychological, sexual and vasomotor symptoms of menopause. This is extremely helpful to give you a complete overview of what the menopause is for you and to enable Dr Hayes to tailor your treatment and assess your response to treatment.

Dr Hayes will go through your past medical history, any medication you are taking and take your blood pressure and a BMI reading. She can take blood for testing at this appointment if it is clinically needed and prescribe HRT if it is suitable for you.  After your consultation, you will be provided with a personalised menopause report, detailing everything discussed and your clinical findings. This means you can focus on talking to Dr Hayes during your consultation without the need to take any notes. Your report will also include your cardiovascular risk, osteoporosis risk score and discussion on genitourinary symptoms.

You will also receive a factsheet about menopause and your treatment options. There is quite often a lot to take in, so we recommend that you take time after your appointment to reflect on what is best for you. Dr Hayes will ask that you book a menopause review at an interval unique to you.

Follow up consultations  are 30minutes and will be a full review of your response to any treatment and the Green Climacteric Score will often be repeated. These are often 6-12 weeks after the first consultation to allow enough time to assess response to any treatment . You will get a written follow up report to assess any changes and response. If needed a letter can also be written to your NHS GP to update them on your treatment and outcomes should you wish to transfer back into the NHS.

Do I need blood tests?  This really depends on your age, symptoms and what medication you are taking. For most women, we don’t need to take a blood test to confirm the menopause transition. Blood tests are helpful to rule out other causes or as a response to HRT to check if you are absorbing the correct dose.  If you have been on HRT for 6 weeks or more and have not had a good response then it is worth considering discussing checking various hormone levels with your GP. Usually, most women have good symptom control with oestrogen levels in the 200-400 range.  However, we sometimes need to achieve higher levels with psychological symptoms but this will depend on various factors and your overall health so it is a tailored personalised approach. If symptoms such as libido have not improved on adequate oestrogen therapy then testosterone deficiency can be screened with a Free Androgen Index. Dr Hayes can arrange for private bloods after assessment and discussion with you.

Location consultations will be in a medical consulting room at HCA Chiswick Medical Centre, Bond House, 347 - 353 Chiswick High Road, London W4 4HS. There is easy access from the high street, from public transport Gunnersbury tube or Chiswick Park on the district line. There is a car park for patients but you will need to email your car registration plate 48hrs in advance.
